Tides, 2015 - 2016

These seascapes allude to the conventions of landscape artwork, particularly implicating Florida’s kitschy brand of sunset art. Especially in Tampa Bay’s regional context, depicting the ocean entirely free of the tourist optimized conception of a coastal landscape is most often impossible and the work is self-aware of this predicament. Blurring in several of the pieces due to motion and exposure time suggests larger primordial tidal rhythms, a sense of deep time where human existence is largely absent.
